Terms of Service

1. About these terms

Varsity Dating ("the app", "we", "us") is a South African service. By creating an account you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

2. Who can use Varsity Dating

3. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login details safe and for everything that happens on your account. Tell us at varsitydating@gmail.com if you think someone else has accessed it.

4. Student verification

To get the Verified student badge you either confirm a code sent to your university or college email address, or upload proof of enrolment for our team to check. You confirm that the email account or document is genuine and belongs to you. Using someone else's email or documents, or false documents, is a serious breach of these Terms and may be unlawful. We may approve or reject verification at our discretion.

Verification lasts one year from the date you were verified. To keep the badge (and features such as Blind Date) you must verify again before it runs out. We remind you beforehand; if you do not renew, the badge is removed until you verify again.

5. What users tell us, and what the badge means

Profiles are created by users. Apart from the age check at registration and the student check behind the Verified badge (both explained below), we are not responsible for the truth of what users say about themselves, including their name, gender, photos, intentions or anything else on their profile or in chats.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or harm caused by a user who gives false information, including about their age, gender or student status. Use your own judgement, follow the safety tips in the app, and report anyone you think is lying about who they are.

6. Rules for everyone

You agree not to:

7. Blind Date

Blind Date photos must not show your face (not even partly), must not contain nudity, underwear or sexual content, and must not identify you. Every photo is checked by our team before you can be matched. Faces are only revealed when both people choose to reveal. Do not try to identify your Blind Date partner by other means.

8. Safety when meeting people

We cannot check the identity, background or behaviour of other users, and verification only confirms enrolment. Be careful when you meet someone: meet in a public place, tell a friend where you are going, and arrange your own transport. If you are in danger, contact SAPS on 10111 or your campus security. Report anyone who breaks these rules using the Report option in the app.

9. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos and text you post. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display and process them only to run the app. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we must keep information as described in our Privacy Policy.

10. Moderation, suspension and removal

We may review reported content and conversations, remove content, and suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or put others at risk. Where reasonable, we will tell you why.

11. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings > Delete account. What is deleted, and what we keep for safety reasons, is explained in our Privacy Policy.

12. Subscriptions, free swipes and ads

13. The service

We provide the app "as is" and may change, pause or stop features. We do not promise you will find a match. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other laws that cannot be excluded. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for the conduct of other users, on or off the app.

14. Changes to these terms

If we make important changes we will tell you in the app before they apply. If you keep using the app after that, the new Terms apply.

15. Law and contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Questions: varsitydating@gmail.com.
